SENDING YOUR RESUME
There are three important things to keep in mind when getting your resume ready and delivering it. They are:
- Paper mail
- Fax
Paper mail
Traditional post service is getting less and less popular for many companies that usually get the first sample of your resume via email, though at some point a paper copy may be required. If such is the case follow the listed steps:
- Try with envelopes number 10, business format, it is a safe option. No matter if you use the post office or Fedex, make sure you got the address right, as well as names and any other piece of contact information to assure your resume will get to the right person.
- If you are going to fold your resume, fold it twice, which means: divide it into 3 parts.
- Make sure that the cover letter you attach to the resume is signed, this is an important detail that many, if not all, employers will check.
Fax
Speed is the main reason why many people decide to send their resumes via fax. The downside of doing this is the appearance your resume has due to the fax paper and printing quality. So if you are doing this, send another copy through regular post as well so the employer takes a look at the copy that arrived quickly with the eventual benefits of looking at your well-designed resume.Maybe the most popular way to send your resume is by email, since it is fast and the format of the resume is not lost. However there are little problems that come along with emailed resumes, being the first one: Attachment problems.
There are many problems that can come up when getting your resume ready and sending it via email. First of all make sure you are sending the resume in a format that can be viewed in any computer, Microsoft Word may be the most common choice. Do not forget the compatibility problems between Programs run by PC and programs run by Mac.
To ensure 100% efficiency it is better to paste your resume in the body of your email. By sending the resume both in the body of the email and as an attachment you can relax knowing the information will get to the right hands.
Timing can be everything!
Avoid Fridays and Monday when sending your resume, make sure it will get there any other day, when the employers have their full attention in the office, unfortunately Fridays are days in which people are focused on reaching deadlines and sending all necessary reports before the weekend ends and Mondays are days people are trying to get everything organized to start the week.
