JOB INTERVIEW TIPS

HOW TO PROOFREAD

Attention to details is a skill every good applicant does not lack, and for the anger of many: Employers do not lack this skill. Try your best when defining yourself, interests, achievements, and knowledge. Once you are done: Check your resume for mistakes, as many times as necessary.

Remember: Some mistakes can keep you from that dreamed job interview.

How many times you need to proofread your resume is relative to your experience doing it and your degree of concentration. Print out your resume before you proofread it and you will find mistakes easily, do it with the screen and there is a big chance some mistakes will linger.

The minimum times to proofread are two (by area), the maximum are usually four (by area) and you have to focus on the following areas: Punctuation, Content, Spelling and Spacing.

Checking more than the surface:

- Spelling.
All word processors have some kind of corrector, so activate it and start checking all the possible mistakes that are highlighted. Then check the text once again by yourself to make sure the corrector has not accidentally skipped any mistakes.

- Facts and figures.
Dates, years, numbers, it is all important and they are sensitive to mistakes, check them to be sure they are the real numbers and dates your paperwork and documentation supports. Do not forget to check your contact info as well.

- Spacing.
Check spaces are equal for all paragraphs and in case you need extra room in your resume this is the time to reduce such space.

- Punctuation.
By reading your resume backwards you will have less trouble checking all possible punctuation problems. Do this at least twice.

- Clarity and content.
The content has to be logical and congruent, read it aloud or ask someone to read it for you and pay extra attention to the way ideas are presented, make sure to follow the punctuation signs.

- Contact information.
By this time you should already have checked this, and still, it is important to check it again. Mistakes on your info contact means interviewer not able to locate you, so take the time and check this at least twice.

- Layout.
The layout of the entire resume has to be "easy to get along with", giving it the appropriate spaces, font sizes and more.
